FROM THE DESK OF INTERIM PRINCIPAL KIKOSICKI

Hello Blue Oaks families,

I wanted to take a moment and express how excited and honored I am to be the Interim
Principal at Blue Oaks for the remainder of the academic year. I also want to thank
all of you for your kind words, support, and encouragement during this transition time.

Thank you!

I have always been impressed by the strong sense of community at Blue Oaks and that
feeling was reiterated at our recent Starstruck Performance.  I look forward to seeing
everyone again at the Pancake Breakfast on March 3rd. Until then, use this link to
Connect With Us and stay up to date with what’s happening at Blue Oaks.

RCSD CHOIR FESTIVAL

We’re excited to announce that the Blue Oaks Choir will be performing at the first
district-wide Choir Festival. The festival will be taking place at Buljan Middle School
on Saturday, March 10!

Good luck to our singing Bears!

SOCCER EQUIPMENT BIN DRIVE
Blue Oaks has been contacted by two Bear Alumni students (Samuel & Nathaniel) currently attending Roseville High School and have been tasked with completing a Global Citizen Project (GCP). This project is meant for them to impact our community in a positive way through something they are passionate about. This would mean things like playing the piano at a retirement home, organizing a flag football game where all the proceeds go straight to a certain charity, or giving an anti-bullying presentation at elementary schools throughout the area. For their GCP Samuel and Nathaniel have decided they would create a used soccer equipment bin drive. All equipment donated will got to a local charity in Davis called Second Touch Soccer. Second Touch Soccer is a reliable charity that has been collecting gear from players and parents around the region. They accept any soccer related equipment and clothes as long as the items are new or slightly used. The organization then distributes these items throughout the world. This includes places locally or in places such as Asia, Africa, or throughout Latin America. Throughout the years they have collected thousands of jerseys, shorts, balls, cleats and other equipment through donations. The drive will run through March 23 and donations can be left in the Blue Oaks office.

GIRLS ON THE RUN - WHY IT MATTERS!

Girls face social pressures and conflicting messages about how they should act and who they should be. Studies show that during adolescence, girls' confidence drops about twice as much as boys', friendships become more complicated and challenging, girls' perceptions of their academic success declines, their risk for anxiety and depression goes up and their participation in physical activity plummets.

Registration for the 2018 season of Girls on the Run is still available via the website, www.gotrsac.org, but is filling up fast and space is limited to 20 participants, so don't delay! Financial assistance is available.
Practice days will be Wednesdays & Fridays from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm at Blue Oaks and begins on Wednesday, February 14th!!

Blue Oaks GOTR Coaches are:
Rachel Madamba, Mandy Murphy & Susan Wells

At this time we have raised over $25,000 in pledges! In an effort to meet our goal of $27,000, we will keep the pledging window open for the weekend. Students are looking forward to this last opportunity to raise funds for our school AND earn prizes. Visit funrun.com for this last chance.
